Dramatic Classic

Lines and shapes of Dramatic Classic

We continue our series of special articles with a detailed breakdown of the style of each Kibbe type. Today, we’re focusing on the Dramatic Classic.

It’s not uncommon to see opinions from Dramatic Classic women online expressing disappointment with their style recommendations: pantsuits, double-breasted blazers, and strict office dresses are often cited as the go-to choices for this type. But is this really all there is? Let’s take a closer look.

Let's consider the style of Dramatic Classic on the example of 4 bright representatives of this type:
Strengthened strict "Yang" of the Dramatic Classic is manifested in classic, but slightly pointed, narrowed or widened in comparison with the Pure Classic facial features.

Often the Dramatic Classic has a slightly more pointed nose, an expressive lower jaw, and a more angular chin line.

The facial features are balanced, graceful, and fairly proportional.
The ideal weight Dramatic Classic figure is symmetrical, proportional, with a slightly broader or angular bone structure compared to the Pure Classic.
Diane Kruger, with her pronounced hourglass shape, is more the exception than the rule. Typically, a DC’s figure is slightly muscular, neat, proportional, and relatively straight.

When gaining weight, DCs often take on a pear shape, with heavier hips and a softening waist.
Hair
Dramatic Classics' hair can be thick and straight or fine, silky but rarely coarse textured.

Sometimes DC have wavy or curly hair, but even then they are recommended to have elegant, sleek or sculpted hairstyles. Be it short haircuts with a clear geometric edge or long hair that DC are advised to tuck back.

Curls will look good if the curls are designed in clear, large, sculptural (clearly shaped) curls:
Gwyneth Paltrow looks much better with straight hair (left) than she does with bouffant curls in a Soft Dramatic style (right). Straight hair with individual dark strands emphasizes DC's expressive strong facial features. Voluminous curls hide the graceful subtle beauty of the Dramatic Classics.

Fluff around Diane Kruger's head and bleached strands (right) noticeably muffle the elegant beauty of the type.
Softening and blatantly changing the natural shade of the hair is not recommended for Dramatic Classics.
Noomi Rapace is a champion of unsuccessful hair experiments, a separate article can be dedicated to her. In addition to too short haircuts (right) or careless styling (center) not recommended by the DC, the impression is also spoiled by obviously colored strands:
Dramatic Classic's hair color should be rich and as natural as possible. When coloring, the shade of his hair can be slightly darker or brighter than natural.

Look at the difference between bleached hair and "naturally" darkened DC strands:

As you can see from Diane Kruger's example, the Dramatic Classic is also suited to curls if they are styled in neatly styled, clear, structured waves:
Natural hair color with separate dark strands of Gwyneth Paltrow and Diane Kruger emphasizes the noble "Yang" strength of the type.

Although Gwyneth Paltrow's makeup in the photo on the left is not the best option for the Drama Classic.
Makeup
Makeup for the Dramatic Classic is meant to emphasize the expressive and proportional features of the DC's face, it should be classically understated, and dramatically expressive and clean, the Dramatic Classic is better off avoiding a complete lack of makeup:
Of course, options with light makeup are better than options with no makeup at all.

Dramatic Classicis are advised not to use shiny textures for daytime makeup, and to use them with caution in the evening. One of the most important rules of makeup is to balance the saturation of the eyes and lips:
The active highlighting of the eye area combined with the pale lips gives the Dramatic Classics image a sickly quality. Compare how much better the photos on the right look, where Gwyneth Paltrow and Noomi Rapace's eyes and lips are colored with the same intensity.
The bright highlighting of Diane Kruger's eyes (below left) obscures her graceful beauty:
Dramatic Classic doesn't adorn extravagant makeup at all.
Wardrobe
The style of the Dramatic Classic is a fusion of the elegance of the Pure Classic and the avant-garde nature of the Pure Dramatic, the two neighboring types.
In the extravagant monochrome look of Pure Dramatic, Noomi Rapace and Gwyneth Paltrow look somewhat intimidating and tired, such a strong "Yang" look is overkill for a Dramatic Classic:
Broken into color blocks, the classic silhouette with a symmetrical print goes much more Noomi and Gwyneth:
Although even these images are not the most successful for Dramatic Classics. We would like to pay special attention here to Noomi Rapace's shoes. Often Dramatic Classics, confusing themselves with Flamboyant Gamines, like to wear massive rough shoes, which in no time destroys their exquisite beauty.
DC and Pure Classic (PC)
The balanced look of the Pure Classic looks old-fashioned on the Dramatic Classic and emphasizes his somewhat pointed bone structure, making him look more angular and broad-boned than he really is:
Gwyneth Paltrow here seems bound by the simple elegant lines of the Flamboyant Natural silhouette. In the middle photo, Noomi Rapace’s dress quite fits the recommendations for Dramatic Classic, but the lack of large angular details, the elongated monochrome silhouette, the romantic hairstyle, and the thin soft fabric spoil the whole picture. In the last photo, the situation is slightly improved by the contrasting angular bag, but imagine if there was a classic briefcase here in the style of Flamboyant Natural. You just want to shout: "Gwyneth, don’t be such a bore!"
But if you take the classic silhouette as a base and slightly modernize it with some unbalanced or angular details, the effect becomes completely different:
This is much more relevant: straight, angular silhouette lines, vertical necklines, pointed shoes, contrasting colors, and a slightly unbalanced top and bottom suit Flamboyant Natural far better; actresses look more interesting and a bit younger in such a look.

The Yang energy (as opposed to Yin), which is so abundant in Dramatic Classic, besides the elongated monochrome silhouette, always implies an extremely modern and avant-garde style of clothing and accessories, so Dramatic Classic is best suited to a moderately balanced silhouette combined with trendy details that follow David Kibbe’s recommendations. Unlike Pure Dramatic and Pure Classic, Dramatic Classic is recommended to wear mini skirts and short haircuts!
These two types are not adjacent, but sometimes they can be confused: even in the movie "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," in the European version, the role of the main heroine was played by Dramatic Classic Noomi Rapace. In the American remake, this role went to Flamboyant Natural — Rooney Mara.

So what distinguishes Dramatic Classic from Flamboyant Natural? Look at them both in the Flamboyant Natural style:
Rooney Mara is 25 here, and Noomi Rapace is 29, and the Flamboyant Natural look does not add freshness to the Dramatic Classic, let alone how much it spoils its elegant restrained beauty. In this photo, the massive jaw of Noomi Rapace draws attention first and foremost. The facial features of Rooney Mara and Noomi Rapace are quite similar, however, one can notice the more delicate (miniature) bone structure of the Flamboyant Natural.
Extravagant and playful details of Flamboyant Natural upon closer inspection do not suit Dramatic Classic:
Diane Kruger in Soft Dramatic clothing looks quite ridiculous, Noomi Rapace — completely unattractive.
However, these two types are undoubtedly united by the common recommendation of moderately large angular details on a fairly stiff, fitted silhouette and contrasting blocks that break the silhouette vertically:
Yes, this is exactly what is needed! The silhouette in all the photos is slightly unbalanced, all the clothing details are slightly bulky, laconic, angular, and definitely on-trend.

If you haven’t checked the Flamboyant Natural wardrobe yet — now is the time to do so: the Dramatic Classic and Flamboyant Natural have many more common items than it might seem at first glance.
Sometimes Dramatic Classic is mistaken for Natural, especially when he hides his strict beauty behind the casual style of Pure or Flamboyant Natural. Look at Diane Kruger, Ksenia Solovyova, and Noomi Rapace in Flamboyant Natural looks:
The elegant, sharp beauty of the Dramatic Classic easily disappears under soft fabrics, vague silhouettes, flashy color combinations, and the lack of a cohesive Flamboyant Natural image.
But if you base it on the elegant style of Flamboyant Natural – elongated vertical lines, concise colors, and add the bold accessories of Dramatic Classic along with elegant shoes – the look becomes completely different:
The facial features of the Dramatic Classic in clothing suited to them become chiseled and elegant again.

SUMMARY

If we consider the Dramatic Classic as a blend of Dramatic and Classic, its style can be broken down into four main components:

  1. A slight imbalance in the classic silhouette (towards elongation or shortening of the top or bottom)
  2. Contrasting color schemes
  3. Moderately large, angular, elegant, modern details
  4. Cohesiveness of the look (harmony between details)
BLACKLIST

It is important for Flamboyant Natural to avoid:

  • Strong asymmetry and extremely extravagant items
  • Coarse textures and excessive softness (round-toed shoes, draping, soft fabrics)
The extravagant look in the style of Flamboyant Gamine does not suit Diane Kruger and Ksenia Solovyova. The shapeless look on Noomi Rapace looks even worse due to the rough textures of the clothing and shoes:
The Dramatic Classic can and should be original, but not funny, elegant and feminine, but not old-fashioned.
The refined chic of the Dramatic Classic creates an impression of sophistication, noble origin, strength, and harmony.
