Kibbe's Male Characters

Characteristics of the male reproductive system
In the men's version of the system, height and exact measurements hardly play a decisive role: what matters more than the numbers in centimeters is how the overall silhouette and proportions are perceived.
Kibbe’s male body types also describe the structure of men’s lines and proportions, as well as the balance of Yin and Yang in the body’s lines.

Yin is generally understood to represent softness and roundness: oval and circular shapes, flowing lines, compactness, soft textures, and an overall impression of delicacy and smoothness.

Yang, conversely, is associated with angularity and sharpness: elongated proportions, large scale, straight and sharp lines, graphic silhouettes, contrast, and a sense of rigidity, composure, and internal structure.
At the same time, Kibbe does not evaluate a man based on isolated features such as the eyes, lips, or nose; what matters here is the overall “pattern” of the lines. He considers the face and features as a whole, how broad the shoulders are and what shape they are, and what the body silhouette looks like—whether it is straight, more triangular, rounded, or compact.

The vertical dimension is also extremely important: whether you give the impression of being tall, of average height, or rather short. Additionally, body texture is considered: it can be lean, sinewy, and muscular, or it may appear softer, fuller, as if slightly rounded from the inside.

Men’s figures are generally assessed in broad strokes: the focus is on the shoulders, the overall silhouette, and the impression the body makes, rather than detailed measurements of dimensions.
The 5 main Kibbe types:
As you probably already know, there are five main female body types: Dramatic, Romantic, Natural, Classic, and Gamine. The male equivalents are almost identical.
Imagine that the world is the casting call for a massive movie.
  • Dramatic appears on screen like a “blade”: elongated, defined, narrow, sharp lines in the figure and face.
  • Natural is that friend you go out for a beer or a hike with—broad, relaxed, and slightly carefree.
  • Classic is the model on a magazine cover, where everything is balanced and without extremes.
  • Romantic — the hero of rom-coms and rock ballads: softness, fluidity, and charisma in the lines.
  • Gaman — the eternal boy: compact, lively, with a sparkle in his eyes.
The purpose of clothing is to complement the body’s natural contours, not to clash with them.
Kibbe's Soft and Flamboyant types
Naturals, Gamans, and Classics combine with Dramatic or Romantic to form 8 more Kibbe types:

Dramatic + Romantic = Soft Dramatic
Romantic + Dramatic = Theatrical Romantic
Dramatic + Natural = Flamboyant Natural
Romantic + Natural = Soft Natural
Dramatic + Classic = Dramatic Classic
Romantic + Classic = Soft Classic
Dramatic + Gaman = Flamboyant Gaman
Romantic + Gaman = Soft Gaman

Dramatics
Pure Dramatics are men whose bodies and faces radiate as much Yang energy as possible: vertical lines, sharp angles, narrowness, and a sense of composure. They often give off an air of “sharpness”—as if they were made to wear long coats and sharp lapels.
  • Vertical: the figure seems long even with average height;
  • Bones are narrow, angular, clavicles, jaw, nose - all with pronounced lines;
  • Facial features are smooth, straight, sunden cheeks, straight lips;
  • The body is dry, the muscles are stretched, not spherical.
The Pure Dramatic style looks stunning when paired with sharp, vertical lines and minimalist details.
  • elongated silhouette,
  • straight-leg pants,
  • minimal vertical division of the silhouette into color blocks,
  • no intricate, delicate, or soft details,
  • monochrome, graphic prints,
  • heavyweight fabrics.
Soft Dramatic types retain the same "edge," but their appearance is complemented by the soft energy of YIN: as a result, their figure gains more volume in the chest, hips, face, and lips.
  • vertical proportions: the figure appears tall even for someone of average height;
  • the bones are broad and angular; the collarbones, jaw, and nose all have pronounced contours;
  • the facial features are sharp and well-defined, yet soft; they are broad or full-faced, with sunken cheeks at a very low weight and soft lips;
  • the body has a more pronounced volume, with muscles that are more spherical in shape.
The Soft Dramatic style looks at its most stunning when rendered with soft vertical lines and minimalist details.
  • elongated silhouette,
  • straight-leg pants,
  • minimal vertical division of the silhouette into color blocks,
  • rounded, flowing, oversized details,
  • monochrome, graphic prints,
  • heavyweight fabrics.
All dramatic artists should avoid:

  • Balanced, classical images
  • Minor, intricate, and ornate details
  • Sloppiness and a lack of a cohesive image
Naturals
Flamboyant Naturals are men whose bodies and faces are dominated by YANG energy, yet all sharp angles are softened by the influence of YIN energy: they have a long, broad bone structure, a relaxed demeanor, and graceful movements. There is often a sense of imbalance—their facial features are asymmetrical and not conventionally symmetrical.
  • broad, rounded shoulders, not sharp;
  • a powerful chest, with arms and legs that look strong;
  • in motion, he exudes a sense of casual ease, even when wearing a suit.
A Flamboyant Natural can pull off bold styles—large collars, wide lapels, and chunky shoes.
Flamboyant Natural truly showcases the beauty of its unique character when it highlights naturalness and softness on a grand scale.
  • elongated silhouette,
  • wide, oversized pieces,
  • loose-fitting pants,
  • a mix of styles,
  • vibrant colors, subtle prints,
  • textured natural fabrics.
Soft Natural — a blend of the Natural style with softer, rounder, and less bold lines.
The appeal of Natural Style lies in relaxed yet high-quality casual wear:
  • loose-fitting shirts, jeans, and T-shirts that look “worn-in and well-loved”;
  • soft leather jackets, bomber jackets, and slightly oversized coats;
  • natural fabrics: cotton, denim, linen, and suede.
The Soft Natural style highlights its best features when styled with a soft, loose fit and bold, creative details.
  • soft silhouettes,
  • loose-fitting pants and jackets,
  • rounded, flowing, slightly intricate details,
  • vibrant colors, lively prints,
  • textured, soft fabrics.
Natural types look out of place when they’re forced into a rigid office uniform. All Natural types should avoid:

  • Balanced, classic looks
  • Tight silhouettes
  • Stiff, structured fabrics
Classics
A Classic is someone you look at and think, “They’re just perfectly proportioned.” Not a single hint of sharpness or softness.

Dramatic Classics offer the same balance, but with a slight touch of Yang: the lines are slightly sharper, and the verticals are more pronounced.
  • his body proportions are balanced;
  • his facial features are symmetrical, with no particularly prominent features;
  • everything about him seems just right.
The Dramatic Classic reveals the full beauty of its balance when it emphasizes proportion and subtle contrast.
  • a slightly elongated silhouette,
  • angular, oversized details,
  • straight-leg pants,
  • a cohesive look where all the details and colors complement each other,
  • classic, understated colors,
  • high-quality fabrics.
Soft Classics — a classic with a touch of Yin energy: softer facial features, a slightly more rounded body.

Bone structure: Well-proportioned, symmetrical, with soft, slightly rounded shoulders; bones are medium-sized or small, but not heavy or angular.
Build: Symmetrical, proportionate, with soft lines. A tendency toward fullness that is distributed evenly but is particularly noticeable around the waist, giving the figure a soft appearance.
Facial features: Soft, symmetrical, with rounded or slightly plump cheeks, large eyes, and soft lips.
Overall impression: Elegance, refinement, calmness, nobility. A reserved appearance, without excessive sharpness or brightness.
The power of classic style lies in its balance and quality:

  • jackets and coats with a perfect fit,
  • symmetrical collars, neat cuffs,
  • and a minimalist design.
The Soft Classic style highlights its best features when it is designed with a soft yet balanced cut.
  • understated silhouette,
  • slightly tapered pants and jackets,
  • rounded, flowing, and subtly intricate details,
  • elegant colors,
  • high-quality, soft fabrics.
The Dramatic Classic style can handle slightly sharper geometry and contrast. The Soft Classic, on the other hand, favors soft color combinations, lighter fabrics, and slightly rounded lines, but everything is still neat and polished.

All Classics should avoid:

  • Extravagant looks
  • Shapeless silhouettes
  • Loud colors
  • Mixing styles
  • Sloppiness
Gamans
Gaman (from the French gamin, meaning “teenager” or “young boy”) is a compact clash between Yin and Yang. Here, the energies do not complement each other but clash in stark contrast. Yin is expressed in a small, delicate bone structure, while Yang is expressed in bright, sharp facial features.

The Flamboyant Gaman is more prickly, graphic, and “electric.”
  • the figure is more compact than tall, with a "block-like" build;
  • the head may appear relatively large;
  • the facial features are often striking: large eyes and a pointed chin; although of short stature, they make a strong impression.
Flamboyant Gaman needs to emphasize and accentuate the inherent contrast between Yin and Yang in his appearance.
  • a slightly structured, well-fitted silhouette,
  • bold, oversized details,
  • straight or slim-fit pants, possibly cropped,
  • vibrant color combinations,
  • fabrics that hold their shape.
Soft Gamans—softer and rounder, but just as bright and lively.
Gaman needs:
  • cropped pieces—jackets, blazers, fitted sweaters;
  • layers, details, patterns, and contrast;
  • interesting glasses, watches, and shoes—Gaman usually incorporates lots of small accents.
The Soft Gaman highlights its strengths with a lively, witty design.
  • a clearly defined silhouette,
  • slightly tapered pants and jackets,
  • rounded, flowing, slightly intricate details,
  • vibrant colors, prints,
  • stretchy, shape-retaining fabrics.
All Gaman types should avoid:

  • Boring, balanced outfits
  • Shapeless silhouettes
  • Excessively long lines
  • Monochromatic outfits
  • Excessively soft, intricate, or elaborate details in the Romantic style
Romantics
Male Kibbe types are a concentrated form of Yin energy, to the extent that such energy is possible in men.

Pure Romantics are represented by the most attractive male celebrities:
  • the body appears softer and more rounded, even if the person is thin;
  • the shoulders are rounded, and the arms and legs appear slightly shorter;
  • the face has large eyes, fuller lips, and a soft jawline.
The Pure Romantic reveals the full beauty of his appearance when he highlights his soft, slightly broad yet delicate build.
  • a soft silhouette with a hint of a waist;
  • fabrics with good drape—knitwear, soft wool, and leather that flows rather than standing stiffly;
  • details around the face: a scarf, a stand-up collar, and interesting textures.
Theatrical Romantic — A Romantic with a touch of Yang: sharp cheekbones, a more angular nose or chin—as if a few sharp strokes had been added to a soft portrait.
Theatrical Romantic leans a bit more toward drama: sharp details, contrast, a touch of gothic—but still set against a soft backdrop.
The Theatrical Romantic highlights his best features when his look features soft, creative, and elegant lines.
  • slightly fitted, intricate, complex silhouettes,
  • slightly tapered pants and jackets,
  • contrasting, elegant, slightly intricate details,
  • vibrant colors,
  • textured fabrics.
